Jaws by Peter Benchley

Title: Jaws
Author: Peter Benchley
Genre: Fiction: Thriller
Published: 1974 (Ballantine Books)

When a man eating shark moves in off coastal town of Amity, police chief Brody and various townsfolk must make difficult decisions on whether or not to keep the beaches open and risk losing potential revenue while trying to figure out how to get rid of the shark so famously named “Jaws.”

I watched the movie a couple years ago for the first time. I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn’t anything worth writing home about. The book is no different. Sure, there’s a few scenes with the shark attacking and eating people, but it’s mostly about the police chief dealing with people who don’t want to close the beaches for fear of losing much needed money in order to survive. Sure, it was important, but really, I wanted a summer thrill full of angry sharks!
