I only read three books in the month of June:
- American Royals by Katharine McGee
- Jaws by Peter Benchley
- Layla by Colleen Hoover
American Royals is based on the premise that America chose George Washington as their king rather than as president. It’s the 21st century and the descendants of Washington are preparing for a new era as Beatrice is the first eldest daughter to ascend the throne rather than the eldest male. As I’ve said in a previous post, I think it’s a decent read, but having followed the real British royal family, reading about an American one isn’t as good since it’s so heavily based off the British royals. If you liked the first one, there are two more books following it. It’s not a bad read, to be honest.
Jaws was also an okay book for me. It pretty much followed the movie so that made the book drag on a lot. The ending was different and that was a rather odd ending, but still cool in its own right. I didn’t understand the bits about the deputy’s wife having an affair with the naturalist. It didn’t move the plot foreword and it only caused a fight between the two men on the boat.
Layla was a terrible book. It’s supposed to be a haunting but it was just dumb. And when I thought it couldn’t get any dumber, the ending was extra dumb. I gave this book one star on Goodreads just because it’s so bad that I don’t want anyone else reading it.
I would have finished Confess by Colleen Hoover in July, but we were away for the weekend so I didn’t finish it. Maybe today I will. So far, this one is better than any of the other books I’ve read by her. But don’t think I’m going to jump on the CoHo train, because I’m not.
