Question of the Week #5

If a new medicine were developed that would cure arthritis but cause a fatal reaction in 1 percent of those who took it, would you want it to be released to the public?

There’s a lot of medications out there right now that cause severe side effects to the 1 percent who took it, so logically I’d say that if it helps the majority of the population from suffering from the disease, then why not? On the other hand, I’d feel bad for the 1 percent who suffered and died from the medicine just because it might relieve their arthritis symptoms. I’d do some more research on why it caused the reaction to certain people and maybe even work on it some more so that it wouldn’t cause such a fatal reaction. Medicine is such a crazy field to go in. You’re trying to create medications to help ease suffering, but a lot of times it creates even more problems.
