You discover your wonderful one year old child is, because of a mix up at the hospital, not yours. Would you want to exchange the child to try and correct the mistake?
This is a hard question, mainly because I feel like a lot of bonding with the child would happen during the first year. The baby would identify you as their parent and would be traumatic if the parents suddenly switched children. I think that would have to be a discussion between the parents and if everyone wants to correct the mistake, then it would have to happen gradually by having the parents increase visitation until it’s time to switch permanently so the children aren’t as upset and confused. If the parents don’t mind as much that they’re not biologically there’s, then maybe just keep them where they are.
